It’s Destination Japan for Glasgow-based salon group, Rainbow Room International! The team is to take part in a pioneering educational trip to the land of the rising sun.
For the past 45 years, Rainbow Room International has been at the forefront of hairdressing and hairdressing training internationally. They have built up a stellar reputation for standards of hairdressing, customer service and the education of their team. Furthermore, the group provides outstanding educational opportunities for international students at their bespoke training Academy in Glasgow. Academy Director at RRI in Glasgow is Laura Leigh Kerr. She was instrumental in making the successful bid, which gets its funding and approval from the Turing Scheme.
Japanese values of Kaizen
This is not the first time Rainbow Room International have taken students overseas to experience the culture and education. In 2023, they successfully undertook an exchange with an Italian hairdressing group (below).

The company’s philosophy is based on the Japanese values of Kaizen, which means continual improvement. This is a concept that the educational trip will underpin through learning new ways of working with Asian hair and historical hairdressing, such as creating hair worn and inspired by Geishas.

“Rainbow Room International is delighted to have successfully won the bid for this educational exchange,” says Laura Leigh Kerr. “We will be able to explore the culture of Japan and look at ways in which we can incorporate this into our training and at the same time increase our understanding of Asian hair along with both traditional and contemporary techniques. We have noticed an increase in the number of Asian clients visiting our salons and it’s important to us that we can provide them with the best possible hairdressing service. This is something that we are looking forward to integrating into all 12 Rainbow Room International salons.”
The team are at present preparing for the trip in March, planning their days to ensure they get as much from the trip as possible to bring back and share with their colleagues in Glasgow.
