With Black Friday on the horizon, Wimbledon salon owner and sustainability ambassador Gina Conway is making it Green Friday and giving away packets of ‘hair sprinkles’ with every purchase – hair cuttings to use as plant feed.
Gina Conway‘s salon won Best Sustainable Salon at the Marie Claire Sustainability awards. It got praise from judge Millie Kendall OBE as a “brilliant voice of the industry,” says Gina. “Gift giving should be a joyous experience and we want to ensure we don’t make mindless panic purchases that end up in landfill. Our sustainable gifts are everyday luxuries that everyone needs, from shampoos to bath oils, from B-corp brands with organic ingredients, as well as recyled/recyclable/refillable packaging sure to light up your Christmas.
“As part of our zero to landfill commitment, we’re also giving away cute little packets of cut hair. These are to sprinkle into pot plants, Christmas trees and also onto the garden, nourishing and feeding the plants. This is thanks to their naturally occurring high levels of nitrogen. The biodegradable packets we use are from a B-Corp UK based company. They are curb-side recyclable or you can add them to your compost bin as an excellent source of carbon.”
Gina Conway’s stunning eco friendly salon is situated within Elys department store in Wimbledon, where Black Friday runs from November 24-27.
