ColorProof’s Jim Markham serves as a technical consultant for Quentin Tarantino’s new movie, ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ thanks to his relationship with legendary hairstylist Jay Sebring.
As Jay Sebring’s mentee and thanks to his consequential business relationship with the legendary Hollywood celebrity stylist, ColorProof Color Care Authority’s Founder and CEO, Jim Markham served as a technical consultant for Quentin Tarantino’s 9th blockbuster film, ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’.
The film visits Los Angeles in the summer of 1969 where television star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stunt double (Brad Pitt) navigate through the quickly evolving film industry with numerous storylines revolving around the Manson family murders, which devastatingly took the lives of actress Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) and Jim’s business partner, celebrity stylist Jay Sebring (Emile Hirsch).
Back in the day, Jay became Jim’s mentor, friend and business partner and together they perfected scissor-over-comb barbering for their celebrity clientele, including actors Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, and Frank Sinatra, to name a few.
In 1969, following Jay’s untimely death, Jim took over the Sebring business as his successor and went on to cut hair for Johnny Carson, Sinatra, and McQueen. This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the Manson family murders, and fittingly, the film pays tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age. In his role as technical consultant, Jim played a role in the set decoration, ensuring the authenticity of the props, cutting and grooming tools, the Sebring product line, and the recreation of Sebring’s Hollywood salon.
