Met Gala 2025: Our Favourite Hair Looks

The traditional highlight of the year’s most theatrical fashion event took place on May 5th, and as always, it was a spectacle to behold. Here’s our selection of the hair looks we loved the most.

Thirty years of the Met Gala 2025, presided over by Anna Wintour, and it still feels fresh. Indeed, each edition is spectacular and a unique opportunity to see celebrities and public figures grace the red carpet, interpreting an inspirational theme through their attire.

The annual fundraising gala is held on the first Monday of May, with the aim of raising funds for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The annual theme is always linked to the Costume Institute’s exhibition, which opens in conjunction with the event. This year, the exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” is dedicated to the style of Black dandies – those African American men who, starting in the eighteenth century, began to wear refined and elegant clothing. The guests of the Met Gala 2025 were therefore invited to follow the dress code “Tailored for You”.

Pinstripes, men’s suits, hats, accessories, and creative short cuts were among the recurring elements of the looks chosen by the celebrities; below are the ones we considered the most interesting.

Masculine Inspiration

One of the most popular interpretations was the elegant men’s suit reimagined for women. Zendaya, with an impeccable white suit, embellished with a large hat that hinted at a minimal updo to simulate short hair.

A similar inspiration was seen with Hunter Schafer, who beneath a soft beret revealed a very neat updo.

Madonna, on the other hand, wore her suit enriching it with dandy details like gloves and a cane, foregoing the hat to showcase a very simple updo with a centre parting and strands framing her face.

Finally, Rihanna took advantage of the public occasion to announce her new pregnancy wordlessly, highlighted by a bodice paired with masculine details like a jacket and pinstripes.

Sexy Short

Some celebrities interpreted the masculine theme more explicitly on their hair, opting for creative short cuts. Starting with Nicole Kidman and Tyra, with long, voluminous fringes and soft styling, up to Anok Yai’s more Josephine Baker-esque look, characterised by a single central curl acting as a fringe/quiff.

Long hair, with a centre parting and styled in natural waves, was another popular choice among many of the celebrities present. From Katy Perry’s more composed waves to Shakira’s more defined and voluminous curls.

The Natural Effect

Others, however, preferred a styling that enhanced the natural beauty of their hair, to pair with a more elaborate outfit. For example, Hailey Bieber focused on her very long legs, wearing a men’s jacket.

While Joey King opted for a hyper-decorated green dress, allowing her softly curled lengths to stand out.

Vintage Echoes

The theme of the gala lent itself to combinations of different styles with references to different eras. For example, Gigi Hadid introduced a ’40s diva note with a very structured hairstyle.
