YouTube – A Powerful Resource in Hair Education

Joico Educator and Creator, Paul Watts, talks about how YouTube has enabled him to share knowledge and expertise with others to help them grow and develop their business.

Paul Watts

YouTube has changed my life in more ways than I can imagine – both personally and career wise,” explains Paul Watts. “The platform has given me a global audience and community.”

“Since joining the platform during lockdown in 2020, Paul has amassed over 178k followers and over 28 million views. Having this audience has allowed him to share cutting and colouring tutorials, providing his subscribers with the highest quality education and industry secrets about cutting techniques, colouring, toning, bleaching, and styling.

“YouTube has given me the opportunity to collaborate with global brands for my content,” he continues. “It has opened doors which I didn’t know could open! For example, after the success of my channel, I decided to open a YouTube consultancy business. This has enabled me to share my knowledge and expertise of the platform with others to help them to grow and develop their business!

Focus on fresh, exciting content

When it comes to my YouTube strategy, two weeks are never the same! To ensure that you engagement with your audience, you need to bring out fresh, exciting content. Due to working away so much, I often bulk film, edit, and schedule my videos – this allows me to forward plan for future content. I plan some content for brands, but at the moment, my content is straight-up, raw, and fresh. If I’m needing inspiration for videos, I jump on Google, Google trends and Google Gemini to brainstorm ideas to film. Social media is also a godsend if you need a little inspiration – the hottest runway and celebrity hair trends always take over my feed!

There’s no real ego amongst the YouTube community. Creators are helping one another, rather than showing people what they’ve got or do. For the hairdressing industry, YouTube is a platform that allows like-minded people to share their knowledge, collaborate on ideas and develop their skills.
