Wella Professionals announced the winners of the 17th Edition of their International TrendVision Award ITVA. With over 9,000 entries, this global competition brings together the talent and craft of hairdressers from 39 countries worldwide, and across all key industry categories.
Given the state of alert due to the COVID-19 virus spread, and to ensure the safety of its artists and collaborators, Wella Professionals decided to postpone the annual live celebration set to take place earlier this month in Seville, Spain. Instead Wella opted to announce and celebrate the winners virtually, by posting the announcement on its global Instagram account @wellahair.
“The recent turn of events has hit the professional industry particularly hard; hairdressing is all about close contact between the professional and the client,” said Sylvie Moreau, President Coty Professional Beauty. “We felt that celebrating these winners not only was a well-deserved recognition of their talent and potential but that it would bring some positive news in a time when this industry needs to uplift its spirit,” she continued.
Over the years Wella Professionals’ International TrendVision Awards have become one of the most coveted accolades in the hairdressing industry. Its winners often go on to become some of the most admired professionals in this craft. This year is no exception with six winners rising above thousands of entries to win a spot in the categories of International Color Artist and International Creative Artist, two of the most coveted ones amongst professional hairdressers.
The winners of the two most prestigious awards were:
International Color Artist of the Year 2020 by Wella Professionals: Anastasiya Kholmanskih @stasya_love_hair (Russia)
International Creative Artist of the Year 2020 by Wella Professionals: Charles Junior Louw @charlesjuniorlouw_ (South Africa)
Both artists were chosen for their considerable craftmanship and contribution to the hair industry.
Of Anastasiya Kholmanskih’s look, Reiner Sauter, Vice President Creative Hair, commented, “The color placement and the subtle differentiations in the color saturation underlines the details of the style. The contrast between the curved line, that perfectly frames the face and the diffused, soft texture towards the tips where the color fades and the texture dissolves, makes this look a masterpiece. Finally, the shade selection fits perfectly to the model’s skin and eye color.”
Of Charles Junior Louw’s look, Sauter commented, “The look from Charles Junior Louw shows strong mastery skills with a true artistic flair. What I personally love about this style, is how even a highly dramatic transformation results in a beautifully crafted look, that shows the model at her best and makes her glow. It takes a real master to compose such a strong look where style, cut and color are working perfectly together.”
Wella Professionals’ other deserving winners took home the following accolades:
Silver Color Artist of the Year 2020 by Wella Professionals: Heather Mackenzie @glam.by.heather (United Kingdom)
The judges loved the harmonic balance of shades used in this look, showcasing a beautiful transition of highs and lows in lavender and silver hues. The cascading waves add a luxurious level to the look, rounding off what is a perfect display of artistic skill.
Bronze Color Artist of the Year 2020 by Wella Professionals: Belén Ujaldón @belenujaldon (Spain)
The judges felt that the combination of color placement and cut used in this look were perfectly complementary, with the combination of on-trend copper peach and pale blonde hues delivering a perfect fit for the model’s features.
Silver Creative Artist of the Year 2020 by Wella Professionals: Leandro Santos Santana @leodecode (Ireland)
The judges loved the combination of hair style, wardrobe and model look created – a harmonious and premium creative vision. The multiple design elements used in the hair design showcase strong creative skill.
Bronze Creative Artist of the Year 2020 by Wella Professionals: Sophie Kinloch @sofdoessomehair (United Kingdom)
The judges loved this celebration of the return of ‘big hair’, bold and perfectly fitting to the model. The strong geometric shape plus the soft illusion of movement present a brilliant final look.
Wella Professionals is planning to invite the ITVA 2020 finalists and winners to attend the upcoming Coty Professional Beauty Destination Event for a special experience and recognition. The event is currently set to be hosted on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain this coming September. The Destination Event consists of three full days of inspirational shows, educational workshops and opportunities to connect and celebrate with talented hairdressers from across the industry.
“Wella Professionals would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to ITVA 2020. In these uncertain times, we are more determined than ever to champion those in the industry who are setting the bar of excellence and are deserving of this industry-defining award. We believe it is more important than ever to applaud the amazing artistry of our industry’s top talent,” said Moreau. “Stay safe, stay strong,” she concluded.
