Personal Journey Drives Industry Change
The collection stems from Alex‘s deeply personal experience navigating the hair industry as a mixed race individual during a time when education about diverse hair care was extremely limited. “As a mixed race person, I’ve always realised that my appearance was a little different. Back in the ’80s there was very little education available to parents of mixed race kids with regards to hair care. This prompted me to notice haircuts and styles from a young age, marking the start on my journey in the world of hairdressing. It’s since become an industry where I belong, an industry where there’s a possible educated answer to the questions of every individual, regardless of hair texture,” explains Alex.
This personal foundation drives the collection’s mission to demonstrate that skilled hairdressers can work successfully with all hair types when equipped with proper knowledge and techniques. The Belonging Collection showcases the beauty of multicultural hair textures whilst advocating for continued education that ensures every client receives expert care. Alex’s vision emphasises building an inclusive industry where technical expertise transcends cultural boundaries, creating spaces where everyone truly belongs and receives the professional service they deserve.
