Creative and Colour Teams Merge at KH Hair

KH Hair has announced the unification of its Creative and Colour Teams, a strategic move aimed at inspiring both the next generation of stylists within the Group’s East Midlands salons and the wider hairdressing industry.

Creative and Colour Teams

The Creative Team, established in 1985, has a rich history of involvement in session work, photoshoots, and major industry shows. In 2014, KH Hair launched its Colour Team, focusing on establishing a central hub for colour couture across the Group’s 20 salons. Creative Director Darren Messias now believes it’s time to merge these two formidable forces into one centre of excellence.

The Inspiration Behind the Merger

The idea for the merger was sparked in 2024 when the Teams collaborated with Wella Professionals on a new colour menu to promote shades in Wella’s Illumina range. Darren observed them working together: “Observing them working together, I could see they were pushing themselves to become even more creative. Playing on each other’s strengths and striving to become even more imaginative and artistic. It just made perfect sense to me to make this a permanent arrangement.”

A Commitment to Education

A core part of the newly merged Team’s mission is providing training for KH Hair’s salons and Training Academy. When not working their own columns or engaging in creative and competitive pursuits, members deliver bespoke training to the Group’s third-year apprentices and newly-qualified stylists. Darren emphasises, “A big part of being a Team member is passing the knowledge forward. They educate themselves on new trends/formulas etc on a regular basis.”

On 2nd July, the Team members came together for a launch and team-bonding day at the Sassoon Academy in London, undertaking a bespoke course in cutting and colouring. Darren shared their excitement: “They had a fabulous day. They were inspired and motivated by the creativity delivered by the course and equally excited to learn new techniques which they can bring back into their salon work and training. They can’t wait to begin to pass on their new-found knowledge to other members of the KH Hair family.”

Individual Excellence and Future Growth

Individually, Team members have also been busy. Joanne Roe, Joanna Bishop, and Bronte Wooding have been developing their collections for this year’s British Hairdressing Awards. Amelia Krasinski, the newest and youngest member, has been participating in stage presentations and attending monthly mentoring days in London as part of the Fellowship of British Hairdressing’s ClubStar Art Team. Emily Dyer recently achieved the Wella Master Colour Expert (MCE) qualification after months of dedicated training, bringing the total number of MCEs in the Team to seven.

The merged Team will continue their close collaboration with Wella, ensuring all KH Hair salons access the latest styling and colour innovations. Through its creative session work, the Team is ideally placed to identify key trends, enabling them to advise clients on the best products and the latest colours and fashions in the salon.

Looking to the future, Darren says: “Definitely more collaborations and training with Wella, both internally and externally. It’s important that members push themselves to continue to learn and be creative and proactive. The top-up training delivered to our apprentices will also definitely continue. Our trainees are always inspired by our award-winning teams and working alongside them makes them feel excited for their own future in hairdressing. So, watch this space, as we have lots more coming up and plenty more to offer this fabulous industry.”
