Healthy hair is happy hair obviously. We asked Brendnetta Ashley all about how to protect our hair during the summer months.
Healthy hair is happy hair! And we all need to protect our hair from season-specific tribulations. With summer upon us, we asked Brendnetta Ashley, Curly Hair & Textured Hair Expert and Schwarzkopf Professional Ambassador, for her recommendations.

Now it’s time to remember to protect hair from heat, brine, chlorine, and more frequent showering. What are your go-to products that help safeguard your scalp, your hair, and your color service?
When spending more time in the sun, your leave-in conditioners are gonna be your best friends! For all hair types I like using BLONDME Blonde Wonder Glaze Mist. It’s a leave-in spray with 3D Bond Creation technology to create new bonds while protecting against UV rays. It also adds a great shine to the hair. The next is a great option for color treated hair Fibre Clinix Vibrancy Heat Protection Mist. It will protect your color and prevent fading while adding moisture to the hair. With both of these spray into damp hair and style as usual.
How does your product benefit hair when warm weather hits? Does it offer more protection (prevention) or treatment (after exposure)?
These products do both. They protect and repair the hair from any previous damage and also prevents new damage. So it’s an important step that you use a leave-in conditioner after you shampoo and condition your hair.

How often should we apply different products?
There is no specific timeline of when you should apply different products. Let your hair tell you! Think of how your hair looks and feels. If you have been using a specific product for some time and notice your hair is feeling lifeless, it may be time to try something new. Also, you want to allow a product some time to work. I like to tell clients to try a product at least 3-5 times to truly know if it works or doesn’t work for them.
How should we choose a product according to the presence or not of hair color?
When selecting hair products you want to think of what your specific hair needs are. Start by determining your hair type. Are you straight, wavy, curly, coily? Then determine if you are fine, medium, course. Next, determine if your hair is color-treated or not. These questions will allow you to select what is best suited for your hair. For example, if I’m curly, medium, and color treated I want to select a product that is color safe and hydrating to my curls. A great product would be BLONDME All Blondes Rich Shampoo and BLONDME All Blondes Rich Conditioner. It will protect my color while hydrating my hair.

Which hair colors are more difficult to maintain during the summer months?
Any color service has a level of maintenance to it, however some colors require more maintenance than others. Light blondes, platinums, and vibrant reds require more maintenance. These tones fade faster if not properly treated. By using color safe products this will ensure the longevity of your color.
