As much as we love the summer, it can leave the hair looking a little frazzled and in need of a little extra TLC. Ben Driscoll-Price, from Price Driscoll Salon in Bristol on his top tips to keeping your hair happy, healthy, and hydrated.

“Maintaining healthy hydrated hair is essential throughout the year, but especially in the summer months,” says Ben Driscoll-Price, award winning editorial director from Price Driscoll Salon in Bristol. “It’s softer, healthier, and less prone to breakage.

The sun can drain your hair of any moisture, as it causes the cuticle of the hair strand to lift. This results in the moisture not being able to seep into the hair, leaving the hair can be left feeling frizzy, dry, and dehydrated. To add moisture back into your hair, we’d recommend investing in a shampoo and conditioner that have been specifically designed for hydration. Look for products that contain ingredients, such as argan oil, avocado oil, and vitamin E to revitalise the hair.”
Ben’s Top Professional Recommendations
In the Sun
“We all want to be outside as much as possible in the summer, but if you’re spending an extended period in the sun, we’d recommend covering up as much as possible. Another recommendation is staying out the sun at the hottest times of the day, and to cover your hair with a cap or sunhat. We’d recommend Oribe Invisible Defence Protection Spray, a weightless mist that acts a heat styling protectant and protects the hair from UV rays and pollution.”
After Sunset
To revive and replenish, our top recommendation in the salon is KMS Moisture Repair Revival Creme – a lightweight crème that replenishes moisture and repairs damage, instantly improves manageability, and adds body to the hair. This product is great for revitalising damaged hair and helping to restore the hair’s natural protective coating.”
Beware Blondes!
Blonde hair is particularly susceptible to dullness, so for an added layer of care we’d recommend Davines Heart of Glass Sheer Glaze, a brightening thermal leave-on fluid which provides hydration, shine, and heat protection to look after your hair on sunny days! The extra vitamin D may be good for your body, but your hair will end up suffering!
The Curse of Chloride
Chlorine doesn’t only turn lightened hair green, it also weakens the hair’s structure. This leaves the hair more prone to breakage and split ends. To combat this, we’d recommend wetting and conditioning the hair before going for a dip. This will offset the damaging effects of chlorine. If you’re planning on spending all day in the pool, we’d recommend investing in a swimming cap. Also, choose a shampoo and conditioner that is specifically for swimming. These will protect your hair and replenish as much moisture in the hair as possible!”
