Wigan and Leigh College student Mollie Dwyer is this year’s Denman College Star in the Big Blowout Competition, winning a significant cash prize.
Denman’s Big Blowout Competition 2025 has clearly become a resounding success within the hairdressing student community, attracting an impressive record of 650 entries in only its second year of running. This easily accessible online competition provides a fantastic opportunity for college students to showcase their developing skills and creative abilities. Participants in College Star have to submit just four high-quality images that represent their very best blow-dry technique for a chance to win a substantial £1000 cash prize.
Mollie Dwyer Takes the Top Prize
This year, the highly coveted College Star title was deservedly awarded to the talented Mollie Dwyer, a dedicated student from Wigan and Leigh College, recognizing her exceptional talent. Mollie’s submitted entry, a long and beautifully glossy curly blow-dry, truly captivated the discerning judges with its outstanding balance and impeccable overall finish. Mollie said: “I think the competition is a good way for young students to show their skills and ability. I was very happy to win the title and at the same time very proud of myself! I am planning on saving my winnings.”
A Proud Winner
In addition to the significant cash prize, Mollie also won a valuable bundle of professional Denman tools worth £200 for her college department to utilize, further benefiting her fellow students. Naturally, she also received a coveted Denman College Styling Kit for her personal use and development.
Tutor Recognition and Praise
Mollie’s tutor, Victoria Mawson, a Lecturer from Wigan and Leigh College, also deservedly gained recognition for her crucial role in Mollie’s success. Victoria received a £250 cash prize, acknowledging the pivotal role that course lecturers play in actively encouraging and effectively motivating students to participate in important industry competitions. Victoria said: “I think it is a brilliant competition which gives all students the chance to show off their skills. Encouraging students to enter competitions such as the Denman’s Big Blowout improves confidence in their skills and importantly, they all enjoy doing it too.”
