Travelling with Scissors – Safety First!

Many jobs within hairdressing involve moving around with your essential tools, including your scissors. Here are 5 tips from Kasho on how to put safety first when travelling with scissors.

Travelling with Scissors

Keeping your precious blades protected while on the move is essential, plus if you’re taking them on a plane, you need to be aware of regulations. Follow these five essential tips from the experts at Kasho Scissors to protect your tools and keep within the law while travelling with scissors.

Be aware of airport security regs

Only tiny scissors with blades shorter than 6cm are allowed in hand luggage when flying from the UK. So, if you’re taking your blades on a plane, they’ll need to go in the hold.

Check with your airline before travelling

Even if your scissors comply with size limits, it’s worth double-checking if the airline has any specific rules regarding what can go in checked luggage. Also, remember to wrap scissors securely to prevent injury to baggage handlers.

Use a hard protective case

The easiest way to protect your scissors while on the move is to invest in a high-quality, hard case. These cases shield your scissors from bumps and scratches while you head off on your travels.

Pad and protect

For extra protection, pad your sheathed scissors with bubble wrap, foam, or soft cloth. This reduces the risk of damage from bumps and vibrations during travel. Always ensure that tips and blades are covered to prevent injuries or accidents while unpacking.

Organise with a kit roll

A kit roll is a great way to store your scissors and other tools, particularly when on the move. Kit rolls offer an additional layer of protection and make it easy to keep your tools secure and accessible. Kit rolls are designed with separate compartments, helping to prevent scissors from rubbing against each other, which is one of the most common causes of damage.
