‘Visionaire’ is the inspirational workshop series that the Matthew Morris Salon holds yearly for their employees. And the results are stunning!
‘Visionaire’ is an editorial workshop and the end of a year long of learning advanced and avante-garde styling, cutting and coloring techniques on wigs, extensions, and human hair. The stylists at Matthew Morris Salon often come out of these sessions with new ways of doing things ourselves due to the unbridled creativity of the students who are told ’there are no rules’.
How ‘Visionaire’ works
When we saw these stunning images, we had to ask how they came about. Matthew Morris explained how the salon’s “Visionaire” Workshop program came about as an incentive for his salon staff to express their own creativity.
“Our workshops are once per year,” Morris explained. “We meet over the course of 4 Mondays and the sessions are for our employees that have graduated to ‘level 3’ education (out of 6 levels). This type of curriculum can develop the stylists point of view. We focus on what makes them unique and honing their individual style.
As for every professional editorial collection, the team started with a mood board and decide a theme. “The pictures they chose for their mood board are very interesting. The theme they eventually came up with was a mix of futuristic and religious imagery,” Matthew explained.
Capturing just the right image
How did they get just the right image in the end and how much AI or post-editing was involved?
“We have a roster of fashion photographers who lend their expertise and style to the shoots,” said Matthew. “Very little retouching was done, and zero AI. When a photographer says ‘I’ll get that in post’, we say ‘but what if you don’t have to!’. We work as if there will be no retouching, and the lesson is refinement.”
