Summer Detox for Happy Healthy Hydrated Hair

After the summer months, hair can often end up a little frazzled. Dry, dull, damaged hair is in desperate need of a summer detox!

“Our hair can start to suffer as a result of too many days in the sunshine,” says Gill Berry, Educator for Joico Europe and Senior Creative (Colour) Artist Team Member.

“UV rays, heat, humidity. salt and chlorine can leave your hair needing a little extra love. If your hair is in desperate need of a summer detox, here are my four top tips for happy, healthy, and hydrated after the warmer months,” continues Gill.

Regular Trims

Regular trims are an essential for keeping your hair looking fresh and healthy. Getting a trim more frequently can help seal the ends and prevent breakage or damage. This is especially important if you’re a blonde, as the hairis already weaker, so trimming prevents further damage. I would recommend getting a cut every 6 – 8 weeks throughout the year to maintain the hair’s health. So many clients fear losing their length, but a trim will only benefit your hair. Once split ends begin to appear, the damage will continue to work its way up the stand, so getting a trim is a must to prevent further damage!

    Hair Masks

Hair masks can revitalise your locks after the summer months – nourishing and conditioning your strands, whilst adding a bit of life back into them! However, hair masks are not a one size fits all. If you’ve been using a hair mask and you’re not seeing the results you’re after, then it’s probably using the wrong one for your hair type. Hair masks are specifically designed for different hair types and different hair concerns. If you’re looking for an ‘all-rounder’ mask that will deeply nourish and penetrate your strands after the summer months, then I’d recommend JOICO Defy Damage Protective Masque, which helps to rebuild broken hair bonds and proactively builds up the hair’s resistance to damage.

    Reduce Heat

We often reach for the heat styling tools in the summertime, as a result of our hair’s reaction to the humidity in the air. It’s time to embrace your natural hair texture and put down the heat styling tools. The constant use of heat styling tools can negatively affect the structure of your hair – overtime weakening and damaging the hair, which ultimately leads to more split ends and breakage. If you must use heat styling tools, then I’d recommend investing in a good quality heat protectant. I’d recommend using JOICO Defy Damage Protective Shield is made to guard against thermal and UV damage. A true damage defence against the harsh effects of daily styling, exposure to UV and environment pollution.

    Reverse the Effects of Chlorine

Chlorine wreaks havoc on your hair – not only turning lightened hair green, but also weakening the hair’s structure. This drains the hair of any moisture and leaves the hair more prone to breakage and split ends. Chlorine is notorious for turning lightened hair green – it’s one of the many struggles of being a blonde! I’d recommend using KPAK Clarifying Shampoo by JOICO, which is designed to remove unwanted minerals after swimming. To brighten hair that has been altered by chlorine, I’d then use the New Blonde Life Blonde Strong Detangler by JOICO to protect and strengthen the hair – leaving your blonde looking bright and beautiful all year around.
