One Man’s Fight: The Alternative Hair Legacy

Not long ago, Alternative Hair faced a touching moment when Carlo Corradi, a dear friend, and his colleague, Luis Vidal, set out to capture the touching story of Tony Rizzo’s personal battle to support research for childhood Leukaemia.

Sadly, Carlo Corradi passed away before his Alternative Hair project’s completion. But then, a young filmmaker, Antonio Celotto, took up the mantle to finish what Carlo started.

The story is a poignant one. It delves into how a humble hairdresser, Tony Rizzo, made a promise to help children fighting Leukaemia, a disease that took his own child’s life. Back in 1983, when Tony and his wife, Maggie, lost their son Valentino to Leukaemia, the survival rate for children with blood cancers was dismally low. But over the years, thanks to efforts like Tony’s, the survival rate has improved significantly.

After Valentino’s passing, Tony reached out to fellow hairdressers, inviting them to join him in organizing the Alternative Hair Show to raise funds for Leukaemia research. What started as a small gesture blossomed into an annual event spanning cities worldwide, where creativity and compassion merge to support a vital cause.

In addition to the shows, Tony and his family founded the ‘Fighting Leukaemia‘ charity, adding a personal touch to their fundraising efforts. But the journey is far from over. They needed help to finish the documentary about Alternative Hair, to share their story with as many people as possible and continue their mission… and finally, the documentary is completed for everyone to see!
