Dorsum Stories by Swedish hairstylist and Davines International Artist demonstrates that less is sometimes more in the Avant-garde category as well!
Dorsum Stories is an avant-garde collection by Annie Ankervik, a visionary session hairstylist & hairdresser based in Västervik and Stockholm, Sweden. Ankervik also works globally as an international Davines educator, focusing on styling and color. She also works behind the chair at her own creative hair studio Swimming on Mars.
When it comes to avant-garde editorial collections, we are mostly used to seeing big hair, volume and height. Colors are often fanciful and seldom realistic. Yet Ankervik tends to have a different vision.
“I tend to do quite a bit of avant-garde hair,” Ankervik declares. “Even though it’s avant-garde its not really big hair. I like to call it minimalistic avantgarde. The most important thing is to stay true to your own style and not overthink it. Do mood boards and if you lose track go back to it”
Ankervik created Dorsum Stories during a holiday break. “When some people bake cookies, I bake hair,” Ankervik quips. It’s born of the lust and the passion for doing hair. Dorsum is the mountain range on the planet Mars. This was my inspiration for the wiggly hair I created for the story. Mars is somehow a bit like I want the hair I create to be. Futuristic, exciting and a bit ‘out there’.
