Backstage Glam at the BAFTA TV Awards 2023

Official hair partner Schwarzkopf Professional provided the backstage glam at the BAFTA TV Awards which took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall last week.  Leading the team was Philipp Haug of Haug London Haus. Together, they created a mix of classic and contemporary looks for some of the night’s most photographed celebrities.

This year’s BAFTA TV Awards saw Philipp Haug of Haug London Haus lead a team of Schwarzkopf Professional hair experts to create the backstage glam. They included Adrian Paoluccio, Christopher Laird, Dan Joy, Darcey Clarke, Dora Lioli, Julian Marques, Marzen Cielen and Vishali Visavadia. They are all renowned for their passion, artistry and technical skill.

With stars including Daisy May Cooper, Chloe Lloyd and Ellie Taylor visiting the Style Suites for a touch of backstage glam, Philipp talked us through the trending looks of the evening:

For Ellie, we wanted to create an updo that felt sexy and youthful – and no one did that better that Brigitte Bardot! It’s important that the hair doesn’t look overly contrived, so we prepped with Schwarzkopf Professional SESSION LABEL THE MOUSSE to build volume and control and used just a large round brush to add height at the crown. We then created a soft bun, pinning hair high on the head and using a tailcomb.

Daisy is wearing her hair super-long right now, so we wanted to showcase that by adding a glamorous cascading curl and soft texture to frame her face. Hair was prepped with Schwarzkopf Professional SESSION LABEL THE MIRACLE and styled with a large tong, wrapping hair from the mid-lengths down and allowing to cool before gently combing through.

The inspiration for this look was Cindy Crawford and the Supermodels of the early 90s. We wanted volume and movement through the style, so prepped with Schwarzkopf Professional SESSION LABEL THE MOUSSE, a classic styling product which adds ‘guts’ and body, making the hair easy to manipulate. Hair was set on large, heated rollers and once cool, we dressed out with a large paddle brush, using the hands to coax hair into place.

Done well, a classic ponytail can look so elegant and is a perfect choice for a red-carpet event.  We prepped Laura’s hair with Schwarzkopf Professional SESSION LABEL THE THICKENER, which adds grip and body, so is ideal as a base for updos. The clean centre parting feels ultra-modern, and we added volume through the crown with some gentle backcombing – we were aiming for a subtle lift rather than too much height, which can look dated. We secured the pony just above the nape, wrapping with a loose section of hair for an elevated finish (and helping ensure that Laura’s dazzling sequin dress wasn’t overshadowed by an accessory).

Passionate about championing global hairdressing talent, Schwarzkopf Professional has grown a reputation for partnering with the industry’s most exciting salons. At the same time, they develop professional product ranges that bring the most innovative haircare technologies and latest trends directly to the salon and client.
