One of London’s most imaginative hotel, The Mandrake, has brought some creative spirit to its existing art collection. It is featuring a new cultural collaboration that combines art and beauty. Award-winning Robert Masciave has unveiled an installation on a chandelier designed by Lara Bohine. It is located in the lobby of The Mandrake.
As the two-time Southern Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards, Robert Masciave is also at the helm of acclaimed boutique-style salon Metropolis Hairdressing in Kingston-Upon-Thames. The chandelier installation gets its inspiration from the stalactite shape and other nature-centric elements of the chandelier.
“My idea was to make its brutalist design evolve to something organic as well as soft. Merging metal with hair and the existing design with mine – transforming it into something more fluid,” says Robert Masciave. “The internationally renowned hairdresser preserves the distinct spirit and structure of the chandelier skeleton but brings life, shape and texture through the hair. Hair is a morphing material, capable of bringing softness, motion and emotion.” Through the artistic collaboration with The Mandrake, Robert invites guests to connect with their emotions through textures and shapes never seen or dreamt of before.
Soul of Man
The award-winning hairdresser also displayed ‘Soul of Man’. This is a sculpture and also a wearable made of 200m of human hair; as seen worn by Hungry, photographed by Studio Prokopiou. Masciave’s works joins other eccentric pieces from hotel owner Rami Fustok’s collection. These include Salvador Dali, Francesco Clemente and Jonas Burgerr which are littered loud and proud on the walls. The temporary chandelier installation, designed by Robert Masciave, is available for guests to view. It’s in the lobby of The Mandrake throughout the summer season.
Robert Masciave is twice winner of British Hairdressing Awards Southern Hairdresser of the Year (finalist 13 times); also Avant Garde Hairdresser at the British Hairdressing Awards. He is twice winner of the Fellowship Salon of the Year and a finalist at the international AIPP and Visionary awards. He’s also a winner at the L’Oréal Colour Trophy.
