Authentic Beauty Concept brings its community together, uniting like-minded salons and hairdressers through meaningful and engaging events, conversations, and opportunities. Their first 2022 summit focuses on a sustainable future.
The event took place online in partnership with Green Salon Collective and Leaf Scissors. It was testament to the message that sustainability in hairdressing needs to be a collective effort. Representatives from all three companies came together to share brand initiatives and best practices. They also gave practical advice for making the industry strive for a more sustainable future.

Authentic Beauty Concept UK & Ireland Brand Manager Emily McTavish started off by giving an overview of the brand’s sustainable initiatives. These included work with the Sustainable Guar Initiative, Hairdressers Without Borders and the widespread roll-out of salon refill bars. Emily also highlighted the brand’s pledge towards a carbon neutral future and a commitment to constantly questioning as solutions evolve.
“Sustainability is such an important topic to us here at Authentic Beauty Concept and to me personally. It was really great to bring together likeminded brands and salons to talk about it,” commented Emily. “We love to encourage open conversations and this get-together was the perfect platform to do so. Also to share best practices and ideas as well as getting inspired about how we can all be more sustainable.”
Green Salon Collective

The first guest speaker was Green Salon Collective (GSC) Founder, Fry Taylor. As the hairdressing industry’s authority on salon sustainability and pioneers of ‘recycling the unrecyclable’, Fry shared insight into the brand’s work finding circular solutions for everyday waste. These include using hair to create booms for cleaning up oil spills, as well as ongoing projects with designers and architects to produce pioneering materials from salon cuttings. Over the last two years, GSC have also worked to generate clean energy from discarded PPE and waste and help salons by composting their used towels.
Leaf Scissors

Leaf Scissors Founder, Steve McManus, concluded the evening. He explained how even the smallest changes – both in the salon and at home – can make an impressive impact. He also shared how daily conversations about sustainability switched on his own mindset, normalising everyday changes. Providing practical insight, Steve gave simple tips for using less water and energy, and how everyone can produce less waste. He also showcased the brand’s impressive product line up of sustainable scissors and revealed the changes they have made to make them accessible to everyone in the professional industry.
