On October 17, 2021, founder Lisa Vann hosted the sixth annual Northwest Hairstyling Awards honoring professionals in seven categories and raising thousands of dollars for the local community.
Following a two-year pandemic hiatus, the 2021 Northwest Hairstyling Awards finally returned on October 17th to celebrate its sixth edition. For this event, the nominating process included salons in Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota and Washington. Winners in eight categories took home special awards. Another highlight of the evening was when Gene Juarez celebrated receiving a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award.
Each year, the Northwest Hairstyling Awards have attracted increased attention to this geographical region of the United States. But in the tradition of hairdressers paying it forward, all proceeds from this year’s event will support a local nonprofit organization. Finalists come from a short-list of recommendations made by industry leaders in the Pacific Northwest, basing their selection on submissions from professionals throughout the region. The Judges are international experts in the fashion and hair industry. Theirs is the daunting task of deciding on the winners.
Although this year’s award show and celebration were scaled back due to mindfulness around COVID-19, spirits remained high. Indeed, the Northwest Hairstyling Awards featured several fashion showcases by industry leaders from around the country.
A special plus: the presentation of the sixth Gary Howse Heart & Hands Award! This special award honor industry leaders who demonstrate both technical excellence as well as philanthropy. This year Angel Hair Foundation in Eugene, Oregon deservedely received this honor. Angel Hair Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization that helps kids in Oregon who have suffered hair loss due to a medical illness.
