Kristi Faulkner: Overcoming Diversity

Kristi Faulkner continues overcoming diversity and embracing multiculturalism also through her global travels as a member of the the Wahl Field and Education Team.

Kristi Faulkner is an engaging educator, a multicultural-inspired artist, and salon owner. After 29 years working as a professional, she continues to be an avid enthusiast for the industry. Picking up her favorite pair of Wahl Professional clippers turned out to be life-changing for her. She’s the first to tell you that because of Wahl, she has had the opportunity to do what she loves while traveling the world from her hometown of Clearwater, Florida to São Paulo, Brazil, London, and China.

Kristi joined the Wahl education team 13 years ago and now has a position on the Wahl Field and Education Team. Always striving to learn more, she continuously strengthens her techniques. Then she encourages her students to to the same. By learning different hair textures, they can become more prosperous in the industry, especially multicultural haircutting techniques. In fact, her specialties include custom design parts, precision bald fades, tapers, and women’s tailored haircuts.

We asked Kristi a few questions to better understand who she is and what her aspirations are.

Why Wahl Professional?

Always Wahl… since day one in the industry 30 years ago,” declares Kristi. “I started with my Peanut and my Designer and have been loyal ever since.” As down-to-earth philosophers would observe: It it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

What has been your greatest challenge and how did you overcome it?

My greatest challenge was definitely being a female barber in a male dominated industry,” she recalls. However, she noticed that not only gender discrimination was a problem, and not only in hairdressing. “As a result, I am determined to work towards overcoming diversity in the industry. If you have hair and money, I cut it, any texture or any color.

What are your plans for making future contributions to the brand, the industry, and leaving your mark?

I’ve been very excited about the opportunity to be a part of the product development team at Wahl,” Kristi says about her latest challenge. As I love education and want everyone to feel comfortable and confident with Wahl clippers and trimmers. To know I have changed one person’s perspective about using clippers, is what makes me so excited. Overcoming diversity in the industry is priceless and I strive to leave a mark of seeing no skin color… only texture.”
