Local and national charities are benefitting from donations made to honour the life of local businesswoman Janet Maitland; owner of Janet Maitland Hair Excellence who passed away earlier this year.
In the months since Janet Maitland died, family, friends, clients, colleagues contributed to a fund in her name. It has reached a phenomenal £5,000. Janet’s legacy is gifting support to local, national and international charitable organisations in support of people and pets.
Local beneficiary is Stray Aid, which provides homes and shelter for dogs. At the beginning of the year Janet and husband Peter McDermott adopted their dog Molly. Molly quickly became a huge part of their lives and is a great companion for Peter.
National and Local Charities Benefit
Two national charities, The Hair & Beauty Charity and Marie Curie are beneficiaries of the fund. The Hair & Beauty Charity’s, linked to Janet’s life-long career of hairdressing will, according to charity head, Jean Kelly: ‘Help to make a huge difference in financially supporting colleagues in the industry. We are so grateful to Janet and her amazing for this donation’. The gift to Marie Curie helps them in their incredible work of support and care. Marie Curie is also a charity that Janet supported during her lifetime.
Internationally, Janet helped to raise money for a number of causes. Schwarzkopf’s Shaping Futures is also an initiative supporting disadvantaged youngsters into training and a career in hairdressing. Janet, Peter and many of their team have also worked on these international projects.
Janet’s husband, Peter McDermott says, “We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their wonderful generosity and kindness. We are thrilled that the money is able to go to such worthy causes, Janet would be so pleased. We would also like to send a huge heartfelt thank you for everyone’s continued support, kindness and love over what has been a very difficult time.”
