Dereq Clark: the new Wella Professionals North America Brand Ambassador

Wella Professionals, an industry leader in hair color for over 140 years, announces textured hair color expert, educator, and award-winning hairstylist Dereq Clark as the newest brand ambassador.

In the world of hairdressing, when salon pros found themselves not being able to work during pandemic lockdowns, the focus seemed to turn to education. Hairdressers quickly learned to compensate for salon closures with online education. Many decided to hone behind-the-chair skills, keep up with trends, and boost post-pandemic business strategies to make up for lost time. And Wella Professionals, an industry leader in hair color and professional education, with a view to reinforcing the Wella Professionals‘ influential team of experts and educators, which recently recruited Amy McManus, has named textured hair color expert, educator, and award-winning hairstylist Dereq Clark as the newest brand ambassador.

Dereq Clark: the new Wella Professionals North America Brand Ambassador

“There is value and validation in seeing yourself represented across brands and platforms. It brings me joy that Wella has provided me with a platform to show other stylists who look like me that they matter. I’d like to be that beacon of hope.” Derek Clark

Dereq is known for his expertise in working with all hair textures, dimensional color, and trendy cutting techniques, thanks to his over 20 years of experience. Combining his training from Vidal Sassoon and Wella Studio, Dereq has developed various techniques and signature styles like the Dereq C Tousle (below), Designer Cut and Luxury Hair Color, making him a well sought-after stylist, expert, and educator in the hair industry.

My new role as a Wella Professionals North America Ambassador is important to me because it gives me an opportunity to showcase a versatile side of hairstyling and coloring on all hair types, but particularly textured hair,” Dereq said. “Representation matters, and to set a new standard for underrepresented hair stylists of color means a great deal to me.”, he added.

Carole Protat, Senior Director of Brand Education, said, “Dereq’s accomplishments behind the chair and beyond are exceptional. His diverse educational background, mastery of all hair textures, and passion for transforming his clients’ confidence through each hair appointment perfectly exemplifies the future of our industry and makes him the perfect addition to the Wella Professionals family.”

Dereq enjoys providing education and training to stylists across the country through various workshops and one-on-one mentoring with peers. In addition to his keen eye for detail and abstract way of seeing color placement, Dereq hopes “to bring inclusion and representation to the beauty industry.” Indeed, Dereq shared, “There is value and validation in seeing yourself represented across brands and platforms. It brings me joy that Wella has provided me with a platform to show other stylists who look like me that they matter. I’d like to be that beacon of hope.”
