Ultimate Grey and Illuminating Yellow are the perfect pair for next year. The message: sun and strength!
No kidding! This year has probably been the most difficult year and messiest year that many of us has ever experienced. It is that much more important not to lose the faith, take heart, and above all, find the joys in life.
The Pantone Color Institute has chosen not one, but two tones as the colours of the year for 2021.
A simple blue is replaced by Ultimate Grey and Illuminating Yellow
The year 2020 was defined by Classic Blue, a colour that, in spite of a name that implies calm and harmony, seemed out of place due to the Coronavirus crisis. But harmony will return as soon as the pandemic is defeated. Let’s look ahead into the future: the Spring / Summer 2021 trends of Ferragamo, Prada, Gucci, and Givenchy manifest the positive mood that this grey-yellow combination will instil.
Choosing the colours
Necessity, hope, impressions from the world over, international fashion runways, naturally, the overall situation all play a role in the choice of the Pantone colours for the year to come. Based on all this information the colour of the year, or as in 2021, a duo of colours. More specifically, this is not the first time that there have been two Pantone colours of the year. In 2016 the decision was taken to favour two soft and feminine pastel hues: Rose Quartz and Serenity. The first is a delicate pink and the latter is a soft sky blue.
What is the meaning of Ultimate Grey and Illuminating Yellow?
Hence the grey bottoms of a track suit and a longing for sunshine? A valid supposition. Ultimate Grey is intended to represent strength and resilience. Grey like that stones that have been on the earth for millions of years and will always be there. Patience and composure, strength and perseverance are the values we will need during 2021. Illuminating yellow instead symbolises the sun, representing hope and warmth, for something optimistic. And in our case it is something very special, perhaps the light at the end of the tunnel.
