Don’t Miss Out: 4 Post-Lockdown Emerging Trends

After many weeks of not being able to go to the hairdresser’s, clients are going to want to book a salon appointment at the earliest opportunity, whether it’s just for a revamp, or for a radical hair makeover.

Treatwell has highlighted what are likely to be the four most popular cut and color trends to celebrate the gradual return to the new normal.

Chunky Highlights
Maybe you thought you would never see these again, but there is nothing further from the truth, as interest in this 90s favourite is growing like wildfire on Instagram. It was the singer and actress Jennifer Lopez who first showed off this look, and since then, other influencers like Kylie Jenner have also shown their admiration. Even the most prestigious brands are including this trend in their proposals for the coming season, as in the case of Balmain Paris Hair Couture. Unlike the more delicate and natural ‘sunkissed’ effects that we have seen in recent years, chunky highlights are characterized by their width and stark contrast with the base tone. Furthermore, the front strands are heavily highlighted in order to further accentuate the contrast.

Light Bangs
During the early stages of lockdown, many celebs opted for a fringe. After all, it’s one of the easiest ways to completely change your look, especially when you don’t have a professional on hand. This was the case with Rosalía, Bella Hadid and Camila Cabello. With salons back in business, this trend is expected to continue, undoubtedly with better results than the DIY efforts seen recently! Everything seems to point in one direction when considering which style of fringe will be the most popular: the curtain fringe – otherwise known as the dentelé, or curtain bangs in North America.

The Blunt Bob
A perfect cut for a brand-new look which reinforces the lengths and helps clients to stay cool during the summer months. It requires clean and defined lines, without scaling or layering, plus uniform length reaching as far as the middle of the neck. This look comes with numerous advantages: it is suitable for all hair types, requires minimal maintenance and can be decorated with accessories such as XL hair clips. In addition, the blunt bob stands out for its versatility as it can be left to become grungy and casual, or made glamorous and sophisticated depending on the occasion.

Vivid Colors
Some people, like the singer Dua Lipa, have identified themselves with vivid/fantasy colors to give a touch of vibrancy and joy to their days in lockdown. Pink, orange and blue nuances are the shades most ‘en vogue’ across social media. With hair professionals finally panning to get back to work, it makes more sense than ever to try to fuel this trend, especially as there are solutions which don’t really require too much long-term commitment on the part of the client. Pastel peaches and mauves are likely to be popular among those who are looking for a temporary fantasy color fix. A care programme to look after the color between salon visits will also provide some excellent retail opportunities!
