Step 5: Section the remaining hair in the back down the middle from the diamond point. This will create 3 total sections in the back. Clip each section for control. Step 4: Section from ear to ear. Create a large diamond at the crown of the head. The diamond in the front should be sectioned in half. This will leave two additional sections on the front sides. Step 3: After pre-treating hair with ProSeries 1, divide the hair into seven sections. Step 2: Using a comb or brush; evenly distribute the product throughout the hair. You will instantly have a difference in the hair you can see and feel! Step 1 A: Pre-treat step with Defy Damage ProSeries 1. Step 6: Start with the bottom front section, near the temple. Take a diagonal forward slice parting that follows the front hairline, then apply Formula 1 from scalp to ends. Step 7: Take a back to back diagonal weave parting, tease the base, and do a foilyage application from mid-length through ends with Formula 1. Step 8: Take down the weave parting you left out of the foilyage and apply Formula 1 scalp to ends feathering at the base. Step 9: Take a diagonal weaved forward parting off the front hairline and apply Formula 1 scalp to ends feathering at the base. Step 10: Take another back-to-back diagonal weave parting, tease the base, and do a foilyage application with Formula 1. Notice the partings are getting wider. Step 11: Repeat the process with Formula 1 on the opposite front section. Step 12: Go back to the other side and continue working up the bottom front section taking diagonal weave partings with Formula 1 from scalp to ends and feathering at the base. Start to leave out hair between each foil. Step 13: Repeat this same process on the opposite bottom front section. Tip: Working back and forth on both sides of the head because it allows the lightener to lift evenly throughout the head. Step 14 A: Continue taking diagonal weave partings, leaving out hair between each foil, as you work into the two triangle sections at the top. Your partings will start to get thicker to create a more diffused color blend. Step 15: Move to the back-left side. Take a diagonal weave parting weave right off the hairline and apply Formula 2 from scalp to ends. Step 16: Now take a weave parting at the nape, right at the hairline, and apply Formula 2 scalp to ends feathering at the base. Step 17: Take a diagonal weave parting, leaving hair in between, and apply Formula 2 from scalp to ends. Step 18 A: Continue working up the head taking diagonal weave partings with Formula 2. Note that these partings will start to get wider as the head does. Step 19: Repeat the process with Formula 2 on the opposite side. Tip: Folding your foils on an angle allows you to take a wider diagonal parting and place all the hair neatly into the foil. Step 20: Go back to the other side continue working up the head as before, with formula 2. Step 21: Repeat the process with Formula 2 on the opposite side. Step 22: Continue working into the top center back triangle section, shifting from side to side off the diagonal, taking weave partings with Formula 2. Step 23: Repeat the process until all the hair in the last back triangle is foiled with Formula 2. Step 24: Now, starting at the front, apply Formula 3 in a balayage method to all the hair that was left out of the foils. This will help add brightness and create a better all-over color blend. Focus the formula on the mid-lengths and ends. Step 25: Continue applying Formula 3 in a V-shape balayage method, working your way around the head. Feather the formula using the side of your brush as you reach the top of the section. Step 26: Apply Formula 4 using a teardrop shadow root method: shallow at the front of the head and deeper towards the crown. Tip: Apply your shadow root on the side of your brush to create a seamless blend and avoid creating any harsh lines. Step 27: Apply Formula 5 to the mid-length and ends, blurring the formula into the shadow root. Process for 15 minutes or until desired coolness is achieved. Rinse hair and Shampoo with Defy Damage Protective Shampoo. Step 28 A: Apply Defy Damage ProSeries 2 Bond-Strengthening Color Preserver throughout entire head and leave in for 5 minutes. Rinse and towel-dry hair. Finish with Defy Damage Protective Shield, focusing on mid-length and ends. Step 1 B: Start by shaking the can vigorously then spraying Defy Damage ProSeries 1 Bond-Protecting Color Optimizer to two-inch sections, in short bursts, throughout the head, really focusing on the ends and areas where you see the most damage. Step 14 B: Apply Formula 1 using a foilyage method, teasing each parting at the base. Notice that these diagonal partings follow the way the hair was sectioned. Repeat the process on the opposite top triangle section. Step 28 B: This protective shield is hairs hero against the harsh effects of daily styling, UV and environmental pollution and guard against color fading for beautiful, vibrant, healthy looking hair. Blow hair dry and style as desired. Tip: As the head gets wider and you do the foilyaged pieces, feather the formula up into the teased area at the base for a more diffused, not harsh, blend. Step 18 B: The number of foils in each section will depend on the hair texture and density of your individual client.
