Top Independent Education: THRIVE by Sally Rogerson

Set on the beautiful harbor of Seattle and famous Pike Place Market, THRIVE by Sally Rogerson Education brought together some 300 stylists for two days of classes including razor cutting, speed foiling, extensions, photography and business.

Also sharing the floor were industry brand leaders like Pulp Riot, Phorest Software, Ergo Styling Tools, Bellami, Aloxxi, Kavella, Innersense, Formula18, Davines and, my new favorite salon accessory, The Ping Color Mixer by Ecoheads. Over the two days in Seattle, attendees participated in morning and afternoon classes of their choice. Classes led by renown educators like Ryan Lewis and Cale Horibe, emphasized salon friendly techniques for head turning hair cuts.

Extensions expert Lindsay Guzman shared her salon secret weapons; seamless sew-ins and poppin’ balayage. Even Phorest Salon Software brought the heat with a crash course in mobile phone photography at their lunch-n-learn style pop up with photographer Zoé Bélisle-Springer who gave amazingly applicable tips and tricks for photographing your best salon styles. In the evening a special THRIVE AT NIGHT presentation blew everyone away by showcasing a personal collection by Sally and the SR Education Team as well as a colorfully festive collection from the legendary Tim Hartley and the always fabulous Miss Tina Anderson.

With the rise of the independent educators, salon suites, and the popularity of vibrant colors, I wanted to create an intimate weekend of hands-on practical learning so that stylists all over can bring the very best techniques back to with them! Every stylist should be able to access this higher level of hair dressing education. So that’s what THRIVE is all about,” Sally says of her intent and goal in creating this unique educational weekend.

With an extensive background in education, curriculum development and editorial work, Sally Rogerson pioneered the independent education movement. By creating a system that supports salon stylists, Sally Rogerson focuses on delivering techniques that stylists can use behind the chair to maximize time, efficiency and of course, revenue. Based in Scottsdale, AZ, the SR Academy boasts a deluge of education opportunities ranging from foundation cutting/coloring, advanced courses, an online virtual classroom subscription platform, and multimedia production workshops. While these classes are always booking up fast, the most sought after program through SR Education is Sally’s superior teacher training program. With options for 3 and 12 months of one-on-one training, stylists in this program learn presentation skills, build confidence, and become prepared to train the next generation of stylists. Whether you want to become an educator for a product company or develop your own education system, this program propels you into confident action.

Whether supporting new stylists with her 6 week intensive cutting finishing school or training seasoned stylists with the latest trends in cut or color, the most unique course offered at SR Academy is the ground breaking cosmetology licensing program. The first of its kind, this education experience combines in-depth hands on instruction with an online state board accreditation as well. This innovative hairdressing license focuses only on hair, eliminating the nails and skin care portion of the license, in these 1000 hours, the state of Arizona and SR Academy deliver an exciting new licensing model for those who want focus strictly on hair, multimedia, and industry specific skills.

Having written curriculum for some of the industry’s most prestigious brands, Sally Rogerson has been the industry’s best kept secret for almost 30 years. As she quietly shapes and redefines beauty industry education, Sally Rogerson is an integral part of this industry’s ability to THRIVE.
