Video Alert! How To Create a Unique and Simple Bun with Sam Villa

If you look on the streets of Paris and other fashion forward urban areas, women are wearing simply wrapped elongated twists, rolls and buns versus the traditional rounder chignons,” says Sam Villa, Co-Founder of Sam Villa and Global Artistic Ambassador for Redken.

Watch him demonstrate how to create a banana bun – an easy technique that can be finished in multiples ways!

Play around with how you’re tying, weaving and wrapping and see if you can elongate shapes,” says Villa.  Keep the following in mind:

– Directionally blow dry hair with Redken guts 10 to create lift at the root before styling.
– Spray hair with Redken iron shape 11 thermal heat protectant and compress randomly with the Sam Villa Signature Series Textur Professional Texturizing Iron to create volume and density so styles stay put.
– Work loosely to make styles more casual.
– Anchor buns with a stronger pin to support the weight of the hair at the base and then fine-tune with a lightweight bendable pin for softness.
– To create the lived-in finish, spray a chamois cloth with Redken triple take 32 and lightly work over the bun and sides to rough up the surface and loosen pieces of hair.

The banana bun brings a lot of value to salon guests and it’s something they can replicate easily at home,” adds Villa.
