What if you weren’t afraid anymore? What if you could identify your dreams? Change your life in five seconds? Become a powerful force on Instagram? Transform the life of every guest you meet?
The answers to those questions and the how behind them will be unveiled at the second annual Dare to Dream conference scheduled for June 24-25, 2018 at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, Florida.
New this year is the Best New Aveda Artist contest. Aveda artists across the country with less than five years of experience are encouraged to submit a before and after photo in the categories of creative cut, color, texture, men and makeup online before June 1 to be considered. Winners, announced at the event, will receive a ticket to Aveda Congress. For those who don’t score the coveted new title, the event itself will make attendees feel like they’ve won. Hairdressers will be pushed to not just think about what they want, but also how they will accomplish it.
“We’ll be helping stylists build the framework they need to take action and hold themselves accountable,” says Tom Petrillo, principal at The Salon People and organizer of Dare to Dream.
David Anders Palmira, Master Stylist at Escape Salon in Boston, says one of his goals he made during the inaugural Dare to Dream was to be a Daymaker every day. “I knew that by becoming a Daymaker with every guest and making the most of every opportunity, I would start to see huge career, game-changing moments happen in my life,” he says.
In addition to having an Instagram following just short of 50,000, Palmira won Behind The Chair’s Hot Shot Haircut of the Year in 2017, the year after the inaugural event.
Virginia Meyer, Dare to Dream committee member says, “This is one of the only industry events designed to help hairdressers work specifically on the personal development side of the craft. It’s about helping hairdressers and salon team members name their dream and then access the tools and resources needed to take action.”
The second annual Dare to Dream event was rescheduled from September 2017 to June 2018 due to Hurricane Irma. The inaugural Dare to Dream event was in September of 2016. Tickets for Dare to Dream are $199. The student rate is $50. Speakers this year include Aveda’s GM Barbara De Laere, Global Artistic Director for Aveda Ian Michael Black and Van Council, owner of Van Michael Salons and NAHA Finalist 2016 Master Stylist of the Year.
