Lucie Doughty named as Paul Mitchell’s First Ever Creative Director

John Paul Mitchell Systems®, (JPMS), a leader in the professional hair care industry, announces the appointment of Lucie Doughty to Creative Director.

In this prominent position on the JPMS executive team, Doughty will lead the creative vision for the entire portfolio of professional hair care brands, including photo shoots, design and media.

Doughty has been with John Paul Mitchell Systems for 16 years as an educator, a platform artist and, most notably, in her role as Editorial Director. In this capacity, she was responsible for conceptualizing and art directing much of the imagery produced for promotional materials and advertising, as well as working as with a variety of photographers for magazine editorials.

Lucie has been a creative force behind the JPMS brands for years, lending her talent and vision to direct photo shoots, video shoots, and editorial pieces,” said Jason Yates, Chief Operating Officer for JPMS. “Expanding her role to all of creative and media was a natural fit for our company and the future of our brands.

Doughty is the first hairdresser to hold the Creative Director position at JPMS. She has enjoyed a long and illustrious career as both teacher and award-winning color artist that began in the U.K. and has taken her all over the world. After completing an extensive two-year cosmetology program in England, followed by an apprentice position with Vidal Sassoon, Doughty worked in salons both in the U.K. and Germany. Eventually she became head of the color department at the Vidal Sassoon academy in Santa Monica, California, solidifying her love of teaching, mentoring, and—most of all—hair color. She then went on to become a Color Specialist at a Paul Mitchell School and created the hair color curriculum that is still used by over 100 Paul Mitchell Schools today.

As a creative leader styling hair for photo shoots and events, Doughty has focused on nurturing fresh talent and has served as a mentor for up-and-coming stylists in the art of editorial styling. She has spent her career dedicated to uplifting other hairdressers and empowering their creativity and success—many of her former protégés have gone on to build successful careers in photo shoots and celebrity styling.

Doughty has received numerous industry awards, including the Educator of the Year from Paul Mitchell®, NAHA Haircolorist of the Year in 2003, NAHA Texture Hairstylist of the Year in 2004, and NAHA Editorial Stylist of the Year in 2016. She was also a finalist in NAHA’s Fashion Forward category in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and was a finalist in the 2010 Mirror Awards International Hairstylist of the Year.
