Bellus Academy will send six team members to compete at Wella Professionals’ North American TrendVision Awards in Los Angeles on July 23; representing the largest delegation of competitors from a single school or salon.
The half-dozen Bellus educators and students will compete in every level of the competition including “color,” “creative,” and “student” competition. Three additional Bellus representatives made it to the semi-final round of the competition. The U.S. TrendVision competition is a precursor to the international competition presented by Wella Professional and is recognized as the industry’s most prestigious hair coloring and styling competition.
Representing Bellus Academy in the “color” category of the competition are cosmetology educators Dorothy Wrightsman and Matthew Hom. Hom was honored as a “Gold” winner in the 2012 TrendVision finals and was named Regional Instructor of the Year in the 2016 Sebastian Professional’s regional What’s Next competition.
In the “Creative” category of the competition, Bellus Academy cosmetology educators Adrian de La Parra and Todd Da Silva will compete. Earlier this year, Da Silva was part of a team accepting the Hair Brained Video of the Year award in the “Steps” category.
Lucero Adame Luna and Matthew Stradling, both cosmetology students at Bellus, will compete in TrendVision’s “student” category. Matthew is a recipient of the 2016 Leo Passage Scholarship and his talents were on display during the 2017 Beauty Changes Lives Experience at America’s Beauty Show in Chicago earlier this year.
TrendVision award winners will be honored with several career-advancing prizes including the opportunity to be featured in a Wella ad created by Vogue, inclusion in Wella’s International TrendVision Award show, a spot on Wella’s New York Fashion Week team, and much more.
Remarking on the educator and student finalists, Bellus Academy owner Lynelle Lynch said Bellus is honored that its educators are competing at the highest professional level. “Our educators’ participation in this elite competition shows Bellus Academy’s commitment to recruiting the nation’s most talented hairstylists to instruct and coach the next generation of industry artists,” she said. In addition to the six team members advancing as finalists, three additional Bellus team members were named semi-finalists, including cosmetology educators Shea Wiegland and Kaitlin Butler; and student Julianna DeMaria.
