Tobias Martinez, a barbering student at Bellus Academy in Poway, California is one of three winners in “The Look” student competition sponsored by Sport Clips®.
The annual competition invited cosmetology and barbering students to compete for industry accolades alongside a separate competition for licensed professionals.
Martinez was one of three students selected to attend the Sport Clips National Huddle Conference in Las Vegas, April 30 thru May 3. His award included travel for himself and Bellus Academy barbering educator Rebecca Gurule, along with hotel accommodations, a VISA gift card for meals, and a half-day of education with a Hattori Hanzo educator. Tobias also received a winner’s swag bag filled with Hattori Hanzo and American Crew products.
Finalists were selected by the Sport Clips Artistic Team and top industry professionals representing American Crew, Hattori Hanzo, Nioxin and Sexy Hair. “Competition is an integral part of the Bellus Academy experience,” said Lynelle Lynch, owner of Bellus Academy. “Our educators see the confidence our students gain and the industry exposure they receive as they participate in industry competitions and we are incredibly proud of Tobias for earning this distinction.”
Julie Vargas, senior director of career opportunities at Sport Clips, said the program demonstrates the company’s commitment to education. “Our support of cosmetology and barbering students spans the nation,” said Vargas. “We want the next generation of professionals to be equipped with the proper training to be successful in the hair care industry throughout their career journey and we’re honored to assist them in pursuing education that helps them achieve their career goals.”
