Cosmetologists Chicago has a long and distinguished history in celebrating the lives and accomplishments of its members. At America’s Beauty Show 2017, held March 25-27, 2017, the 15,000-member association presented several honorary scholarships and awards remembering those who served with honor.
The 2017 Margaret Vinci Heldt Creativity in Hairdressing Scholarship was presented by CC President Larry Silvestri to Shannon Kezy of the Navii Salon in Schereville, Indiana. Named after CC’s own Margaret Vinci Heldt, the creator of the iconic “Beehive” hairstyle that swept the fashion world in the 50s and 60s, this scholarship honors Margaret’s contribution to the association and her lifelong commitment to help others through education. The funds are designated for advanced education in the art of hairstyling.
The 2017 Lisa C. Newman Scholarship was awarded to Stephanie Hernandez of the Mario Tricoci Salon & Day Spa, Illinois. It is presented annually to a CC member for advanced training in any cosmetology discipline – hair, nails, skin or salon business. The award honors the memory of Lisa C. Newman who led CC’s marketing efforts for more than 25 years.
The 2017 Jerry Gordon Salon Business Leadership Award was awarded to Candy Shaw of the Jamison Shaw Salon in Atlanta. The award is named for a man who led CC, conducted business seminars throughout the world and ran a successful salon in Chicago for more than 50 years. In presenting the award, Jerry’s wife and salon partner Karen Gordon noted, “Candy, you are not only a brilliant hair cutter, colorist, salon owner, educator, product manufacturer, role model, wife, mother… you LIVE in Jerry’s beloved racing team color – yellow!”
In accepting the award, a Baccarat crystal Ferrari horse in honor of Jerry Gordon’s passion for racing and fine cars, Candy Shaw noted “A gossip is someone who talks to you about others. A bore is someone who talks to you about themselves. A wise person is someone who talks to you about YOU! Jerry Gordon was a WISE Person who filled every room he entered with love, knowledge and electricity! Thank you, Karen, and the Cosmetologists Chicago Board of Directors for this incredible honor. I promise to pay Jerry’s legacy forward in my classrooms and in my salon…because I know Jerry would really like that!”
The new Fred A. Piattoni Award for Industry Service was initiated this year to celebrate the contributions of former Cosmetologists Chicago Executive Director Fred Piattoni. Paul Dykstra, CEO of Cosmetologists Chicago and America’s Beauty Show presented this award to Pat Parenty during the Beauty Changes Lives Legacy Dinner on March 26, 2017.
In attendance at a special Friday night awards ceremony were the Cosmetologists Chicago Board of Directors along with selected NEXT GEN leaders from their salons.
