Nikki has long been fascinated by the intricacies of braiding, a practice which has taken place for thousands of years in many different cultures, and for a variety of uses.
Traditionally, the materials used in braids have depended on the indigenous plants available in the local area, so they are by definition natural, harmonious and organic creations.
Deciding to call the collection “Intertwine” Nikki was inspired by a Balmain collection where varying types of rope were used for their garments and styling and she set herself the challenge of replicating this sense of raw elegance in her hair. While most commonly a three-stranded structure, she used weaving, braiding and threading techniques to construct more complex versions from an arbitrary number of strands to create a collection which is sophisticated and artistic, but simultaneously unrefined in texture.
