An inspiring workshop leads to a photo shoot in Europe’s fashion capitals, showcasing the most exciting new hair looks to come!
2,500 competitors from across the globe battled for the most coveted titles to win the Color Zoom Challenge 2016. Of the three stylists who took home the gold, two came from the United States: Corinne Brown from Seattle, WA won in the Partner category, for color creations designed by stylists who have already worked for Goldwell as a trainer or guest artist. Harley LoBasso of Delray Beach, FL, reigned in the Creative category, open to all Goldwell stylists with more than five years of professional experience.
Now, as members of Goldwell’s 2016 Global Color Zoom Creative Team, the two are already making their mark on the industry. With the help of the third winner, Natalie Cara Jones of the U.K., and under the guidance of the Goldwell Master Team, Brown and LoBasso worked on helping create the 2017 Color Zoom Collection. During an exciting, week-long workshop in London, the team interpreted the international fashion trend forecasts for 2017/2018 and translated them into a series of groundbreaking looks. To bring the results to life, the group then reconvened for extended photo shoots in trendy Berlin.
For other stylists considering entering this next Color Zoom competition, LoBasso’s advice is to “definitely do it. It’s crazy to look back on your first entry and see how you’ve grown and how your work has grown. You should attend a Global Zoom to experience it. It’s like Olympic training: You need to see the best to be the best.” As for winning? “It really changes your life,” adds LoBasso. “Goldwell gives you the tools to be as creative as you want to be. I cry every time I talk about it – it was just a great experience.”
For her part, Brown prepared for the Color Zoom Challenge by doing 22 full run-throughs on mannequin heads, from color to styling. “Every step of the process was timed and repeated all the way up to competition day, so that on competition day I had developed muscle memory and could go on autopilot,” Brown says. She calls participating in the Color Zoom Challenge an empowering experience. “And remember, it’s meant to be fun,” she adds. “I don’t plan on entering again: This has been such an incredible experience for me that I want as many people to have it as possible.” Since her win, Brown’s been asked to teach more and work at more Goldwell events, “which I love, love, love,” she says. “I’ve also been inspired to do more photo shoots.”
The new 2017 Color Zoom Collection, featuring 6 stunning key looks, will be unveiled to the public in Stockholm this October 2016. The hands-on finale of the Color Zoom Challenge 2016 will be held there on 2 October 2016 – a new opportunity for three stylists to make their mark in the international hairdresser industry.
