Instagram How-To: Movement in Cool, Pastel Hues by @spectraltones

Julie Mueller is the beauty professional behind the amazing Instagram account @spectraltones. She got her license in 2007 and now co-owns her own salon studio called Stay Gold Salon in Fullerton, California making her skill irrefutable, especially when looking at her feed!

This look was so fun to create,” says Julie. “My client came in with 4 inches of level 5 roots and the ends prelightened to around a level 8.”

The look came from an inspiration photo where the model had pastel lavender and pastel blue tips with a deeper purple base. As the Instafamous @spectraltones, she had to put her own spin on it and she nailed it!

What makes this look special? The soft transitions and different dimensions throughout the work make it classy and gives off a highlight that serves as a lift in volume and bounce.

I really enjoy playing with different vivid lines together and creating new and unique tones,” says Julie. “I also love using the same colors on the head in different ratios and different formulas to really tie the colors together.”

Get the look step-by-step!

Step 1: I lightened her roots with L’Oréal Blonde Studio Bleach with 40 volume and lightened her roots with 20 volume with the Brazillian Bond Builder added.

Step 2: I toned her at the bowl with Redken Shades EQ – 1oz 9v 1.5oz Crystal Clear 2.5oz Processing Solution for 10 minutes.

Step 3: I thoroughly dried the hair and formulated the color:

  1. Root area: Half Joico Amethyst and Half Arctic Fox Purple Rain
  2. Blue tips: Half Pravana Powder Blue and half Pravana Neon Blue
  3. Pinky Lavender tips: 1/3 part Pravana Lavender, 1/3 part Pravana Silver, 1/3 part Joico Amethyst
