ESTETICA sat down with industry maven Paul Barry, whose 51-year trajectory in the beauty industry has lead his to the creation of his company and legacy, Barristar Student Services, dedicated to producing hair shows exclusively with students, and not brands in mind.
With education at the helm, he has a handful of beauty trade shows throughout the nation that are set apart from the norm because they are the primary platform exposing and educating the industry’s future beauty professionals throughout the US.
“This is more like the introduction to hair shows,” says Paul. “It is so much better as a first event because as a student a big trade show can get overwhelming. It is a show without the bells and whistles and more immediate education, like, ‘How to get the perfect color in one hour.”
His upcoming show will take place at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, FL on February 28th: Barristar Student Services collaborates with (FACTS) The Florida Association of Cosmetology and Technical Schools, the only organization representing the interests of Florida beauty schools, educators and students statewide to bring students the ideal platform and exposure to trade shows in many of the students’ careers.
This is the 5th year of the FL show which will host 40 exhibitor booths that know the audience will be solely students and they can answer the questions of possible long-term customers. For those looking to expand their experiences and dare to take a leap to possibly win over $50,000 in prizes, there will be three competitions open for registration; a mannequin updo competition, a nail competition, and of course a barber battle. You can register here.
An event created specifically for beauty & barbering students with classes of brands like Wella, Peter Coppola, and Andis are taught by teachers that receive continued education credits for accreditation. There will also be plenty demonstrations with a magnificent Main Stage designed for students without the stress and pressure of 100 models, brand spectacles or intimidations that may distract from learning the tricks of the trade. Guest Artists and Exhibitors will gather to meet the next generation of beauty professionals who are bound to make leaps in the industry.
