HOW TO! SS 2016 Haircolor Trends from Kate Reid, COLOR.ME by KEVIN.MURPHY

For Spring/Summer 2016, hair color will feature a fresh approach to pastels and precious metals for a more sophisticated look. Kate Reid, Director of Education, COLOR.ME by KEVIN.MURPHY explains the two biggest trends…

The new Pastel Blonde
Pastels won’t be going away anytime soon. With Rose Quartz and Serenity named Pantone Color of the Year shades for 2016, pastels will remain a top hair colour trend but take on a new direction. Pastels will be given an avant-garde look with the combination of timeless precious metal-inspired shades like platinum. Punk platinum combined with edgy-yet-feminine Rose Quartz delivers a cool, modern result!

Use a clean, clear blonde in a light, neutral, sandy tone with a soft multi-tonal gloss. The color should have dimension, created by using multiple shades of blonde in naturally placed foils, similar to a babylights technique. The pastel shades should sit a bit heavier and be applied sparingly so the end result is seamless vs. stripe-y and a little more wearable. This technique also pairs well with texture and the cut of the year – the shag.

Mixed Metals / Rose Quartz
Inspired by fashion, and the mixing of silver and gold jewelry, the mixed metal trend bends the rules on color. Instead of sticking to one metallic shade family, this trend embraces a fusion of rose golds, pewter, silver and 14k gold hues for a soft, fresh, perfectly balanced and blended finish.

Use an intense jewel-inspired pastel shade with a cool, muted edgy tone using a mix of blonde foils to keep it commercial and on-trend, yet feminine and wearable.

Step 1: Apply SILVER shades in a slice placed on an angle to create heavy colour through the front sections of the head
Step 2: Due to the shade being so soft, if it’s not placed in a heavy manner, it won’t be seen
Step 3: Take a diamond section on the top of the head. Foil out blonde foils on all edges of the diamond
Step 4: Apply soft but intense ROSE QUARTZ shade through the diamond section in a solid form
Step 5: Develop and apply FINISHING REGIME
