Spring/Summer 2016 Fashion Week broke the basic rules of beauty with looks that embraced different personalities to let a woman show off her individual beauty and unique characteristics.
After reflecting on the season as a whole, Guido, Redken Global Creative Director, named the 3 key looks that stood out in NYC, Milan and Paris.
“There are different personalities and there isn’t just one type of girl. It’s a concept that we’ve talked about for so many years that has finally come to fruition, which is the idea that a woman can be herself,” says Guido. “It’s a very positive message because it’s up to you – there are no rules in beauty anymore. There’s not this strictness, which is really liberating.”
Look of The Season – New York: Tory Burch
Vintage vibes followed by classy details give a mysteriously sexy take on this look that begs the question, “Where did this outrageously beautiful woman come from?” Incorporating the best of super sophisticated vs. ultra sexy, Guido hit it on the nose by creating a well-balanced, pulled together look. The trick? Create balance by setting the hair with softness around the face and a bit of a wet finish.
“This look gives a nod to the late-50’s, early-60’s, but it’s not meant to be a completely retro idea,” said Guido. “I used stay high 18, which is a gel-to-mousse formula that creates that great volume with hold when you blow-dry, and then teased the hair at the crown for a little more height, smoothing with my hands so the shape is slightly asymmetrical, which is very flattering as well.”

Look of the Season – Milan: Alberta Ferretti
Whether you have a company gala, a night out on the town or “hello, wedding season,” this carefully crafted hair design, dressed up or dressed down, will be a hit either way! The gold thread makes a perfect compliment to the overarching feminine theme connected to this textured updo.
“It’s a little late-70’s or early-80’s feeling with the soft hairlines and a little bit of height at the top, but overall it’s very simple,” said Guido. “Wind blown 05 was the main product I used because it gives you some friction and texture when creating these sorts of updos—it makes the hair very manageable to work with.”

Look of the Season – Paris: Celine
Guido channeled sultry tunes of soul as well as rhythm and blues with this super chic coiffure. There’s something mysterious about the style which makes it stand out from the crowd and walk to the beat of its own drum. With all the right steps, the ending result is perfectly polished and aesthetically inspiring.
“Overall, the look feels quite tomboyish, but still super polished and modern, which is very Celine,” said Guido. ”I started by blow drying the hair very smooth using guts 10 and shape factor 22, which I applied at the forehead and just raked through with my fingers because it’s got that great hold and adds a little bit of lift.”
