A Phenomenal Success! Intercoiffure Fall Atelier 2015 in NYC

Intercoiffure America/Canada Fall Atelier 2015 closed with the crème de la crème of hairdressing simultaneously getting loose and getting schooled by the top in the industry, including Tracey Cunningham, Guy Tang, Ted Gibson, Van Council among others who familiarized complex topics through fascinating presentations, seminars and conferences.

Intercoiffure America/Canada Fall Atelier 2015 was the first led by the President, Frank Gambuzza who has a beauty industry career that spans more than 40 years, starting as a shoeshine boy in a New Jersey barbershop, and ultimately opening Salon Visage in 1986 with his wife and partner, Belinda.

The recently appointed Fashion Director of the association, the prestigious stylist Van Council, and owner of the Van Michael Concept Salons in Atlanta, closed the event with a show that had the Waldorf Astoria’s Main Ballroom vibrating from the thunderous standing ovation for his trendsetting before and after looks as well as a live presentation on cutting and styling.

On the fist day of ICA, morning meetings had us busy shifting from room to room for the best tips on how to make a salon successful amongst today’s competition. The fun began with the ICA Main Stage Presentations with Kérastase and their international showcase followed by “Split Decisions” with John Donato and his team for Wella. Donato and his with Salon & Spa Team showcased how hairstylists can completely transform the everyday man into a true fighter through the snip of some shears. By taking real men, adding technique and product, he demonstrated how stylist could transform a look instantly from predictable uptown to a fighter in style.

Then, CND’s Jan Arnold stole the spotlight dressed in gold and presented the new developments in the brand to encourage the most Creative Nail Designs at the salons, especially with the nail craze wave that is hitting us this fall.

Oscar Blandi had a special show this year, honoring NYC and its hair fashion as a tribute to the place where he learned to fly. His mission was one of Timeless Glamour involving the product Suretint. He explained that the show is a culmination of his years in the city of dreams, showcasing fashion, both in hair and vintage textiles from the 80’s up to the modern times. Similarly, he wants to transport the attendees at ICA by using couture, including the blood red iconic dress that paralyzed the room with wonder.

The two-day event continued with extraordinary black tie gala where the topic of the conference was truly discussed, “Honoring the Past and remembering the Future.” Gambuzza topped the dinner gala was by honoring the best in the field with the most successful trajectories throughout the years. The “FALCON Award” was given to his predecessor, the first female President of ICA, Lois Christie, who wore her Louboutins up to the stage to receive her award. On that tone, “Sans Bias” was gifted to Connie Sullivan, an award given to a woman who has been beyond successful in the Beauty business. Mary Brunetti who has dedicated her life to sharing the craft rightfully won the “Educator of the Year” award and the “Behind the Scenes” award was won by Frank Shortino. “The President’s Award” was given to John Jay, Ken Anders, Mary Tripi and Carmine Petretto as an ode to their outstanding achievements.

Then the night got dipped in “COLOUR,” with Sonya Dove and Belinda Gambuzza for the ICA Color Council and their incredible tonal creations followed by “DIY Cuban Couture” given by industry icon Richard Calcosola and team Maximus sponsored by Wella.

The celebration continued on day two where a power lineup is scheduled for the day. Industry icon Ted Gibson and Jason Backe from L’Oréal Professionnel led on the importance on service and how that can be a key factor that leads to stardom. Then ReGenesis by Revitalash featured “Illusionist” by Christopher Dove and John Simpson, showcasing strikinig looks utilizing the same innovation that lead Revitalash to worldwide fame.

The Intercoiffure North America/Canada Nouveau Team marched onstage with their Wella sponsored and truly breathtaking “Refugee” collection, which set a more serious tone and encouraged discussion about discrimination and immigration, sending a refreshingly unifying twist on the international background of the conference as well as the country.

On the digital side of hair business, #HAIRBESTIES Tracey Cunningham and Guy Tang lead a energizing presentation where they focused on the healing and protective qualities of Olaplex. These two are grateful to the product not only for how is helps their client’s hair, but also because of the range in tones that you can create while using this product that protects the hair while lifting color.

With such a successful reunion, everyone that attended had only one thing in mind: Intercoiffure Spring Atelier 2016, which will take place in Boca, FL for a hot fiesta!
