Leslie Cook, stylist at Tangles Salon (Wichita Falls, TX www.tangles.com), met Peter Gray at a Color Show in New Orleans a year ago, and this season she, Mercedes Villasana and Paytn Morales, worked backstage with him at NYFW…and it was all because of an unforgettable first impression!
“Mercedes and I met Peter a year ago, we were recruited to help out with a show and he happened to be the lead artist. Peter allowed us to come to NYFW because of the first impression we left on him at that show. We worked our butts off and it was definitely noticed when we were still there at 10pm when mostly everyone else left by 5/6pm. An amazing opportunity that has since paid off ten fold! I also had the honor of working with him last October in Berlin for the Goldwell Color Zoom event! I have always wanted to experience backstage at Fashion Week, coming from little ole’ Wichita Falls, TX, opportunities like that are hard to come by. So, I basically begged him to let us come work with him… offered our services for free, we all just wanted to be apart of something more than our daily lives behind the chair. How could he turn down three extra pair of hands?! So, he said okay and I found plane tickets for dirt cheap – it was definitely meant to be!” explains Cook.
As with most dreams that come true, there is always something to learn… “Working with Peter was certainly intense, he’s an artist and very passionate about his work. It’s interesting watching his thought process on how he comes up with his ideas for the hair. If I’ve learned anything from him, it is to do what you feel is right, regardless of what others may think. Stay focused, and when you loose your direction stop and refocus… and of course, proper product usage, correct ways to set the hair, and the right tools for styling your set. It was such a learning experience and we are honored that we had the opportunity to work with him,” adds Cook.
