Dustin Villa, Aveda Institute Tucson Student; Dallan Flint, Boeau Belle Salon Spa Professional; and Robert Grimes, Aveda Editorial Artist take home top honors – while Aveda Global Creative Director, Antoinette Beenders’ awe-inspiring presentation steals the show!
Aveda proudly congratulates Dustin Villa, Dallan Flint, and Robert Grimes – all Aveda network winners at the 26th Annual 2015 North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHAs), produced by the Professional Beauty Association (PBA). The NAHAs took place in front of a crowd of more than 3,000 beauty professionals in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, and is considered the leading photographic hairstyling and beauty competition in North America.
Aveda Global Creative Director, Antoinette Beenders, presented the coveted award for Student Hairstylist of the Year to Dustin Villa of Aveda Institute Tucson, Arizona. With excellence in education a priority at Aveda, Villa is a shining example of Aveda’s commitment to nurturing new talent through first-class education.
Just prior to presenting this award, Beenders’ six model theatrical presentation wowed the crowd and rocked the stage for the final performance of the evening. Inspired by Joan of Arc and the punk rock movement, looks seen on the models included short bobs with multiple layers of bold hair color and gorgeous faces adorned with jewels. Each piece of clothing was fashioned from organic cotton and black straws made from recycled plastic. Beenders was assisted by a team of Aveda stylists including three members of the Aveda Global Artistic Team: Allen Ruiz, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Hair Styling; Janell Geason, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Makeup; and Ian Michael Black, Global Artistic Director, Hair Color.
The People’s Choice Award went to Dallan Flint of Boeau Belle Salon & Spa in Irving, Texas who told the audience during his acceptance speech to never give up on their dreams. Voting for this award took place on PBA’s Facebook Page. Followers were instructed to vote for their favorite NAHA finalist by liking their collection; the five collections with the most likes were selected as finalists making Flint a true star to his peers.
Robert Grimes, Aveda Editorial Artist, Austin, Texas took home both Hairstylist of the Year and the Contemporary Classic Award and gave a powerful and moving acceptance speech honoring his love for Aveda and his Aveda family of mentors.
Aveda is proud to celebrate the commitment and creative spirit of all the Professional Beauty Association’s 2015 North American Hairstyling Awards finalists. The NAHAs recognizes technical excellence and artistic expression in hairdressing, as well as salon design aesthetic and beauty business acumen. There were 17 finalists from the Aveda network in the 2015 competition.
