Video Alert! Choppy Bob Makeover, Going from Long to Medium!

Many women have long hair by default, they just keep growing it and really don’t know what to do with it. This is the perfect client to makeover, because you have all that hair to work with, the trick is choosing a style that’s young and fun

Ruth Roche, Artistic Ambassador for Pureology Serious Colour Care, shares a haircut she did on a young client with fine long hair and transformed her style into a loose medium layered cut with hidden tricks to promote volume and movement. Here are some tips to keep in mind while doing the cut:

Cut
● Start with steep diagonal parts deep in the nape area.
● Use long strokes with a razor to establish the length and keep the edges soft and light.
● Cut the hair longer in the front than on the sides and back so it sweeps over the shoulder and creates movement.
● Dry hair with Pureology Colour Stylist Root Lift Humidity-Resistant Cream Spray Mousse to create volume at the roots before texturizing and finessing the cut – it’s better to do the rest of the cut on dry hair.
● Cutting hair shorter to long in the crown will help to create more lift in that area.

Finish
● For an alternative finish to relaxed layers, use a curling iron to create waves. Spray Pureology Strengthening Control Zero Dulling Hairspray to a section and using a large 1 3/4” curling iron, wrap only the root area. This looks funny while doing it, but the end result is really cool. At the top, bricklay sections away from the face and always wrap hair framing the face away from the face so it moves back and looks more natural. Finger through to blend – the end result looks like beachy and textured.

Here’s a tip for blow drying the front when you want it to sweep to one side. Brush hair to the opposite side that it falls on and wrap the section around a round brush rolling hair back towards the side it will fall to. Hit it with heat from a dryer and let it cool. When you drop the section it will fall to the other side. It’s a really easy trick to show clients too,” says Roche.
