Beware of the overly “friendly” conversations. While some small talk is necessary for creating a bond with our guests, stylists caught in friend mode and spend way too much time socializing and too little time having conversations that relate to the services their guests are having done.
The habit of too much small talk quickly leads to the ultimate hazard, which is making guests our friends. There is a big difference between being guest friendly and making guests our friends. Being friendly to guests is part of the bonding process, but the moment we make a guest our friend, we feel the pressure to discount our prices or give away services for free.
Nothing condemns us to a lifetime sentence in the prison of low income more than the need to be liked by friends who used to be guests.
