Sam Villa, Founding Partner of Sam Villa, Education Artistic Director for Redken 5th Avenue, and Stylist Choice Award Winner for Favorite Platform Artist and Educator (2012, 2011 and 2007), can now add Favorite Overall Educator of the Year (2015) to his accolades!
Anyone who has experienced his unique teaching style and ability to inspire, motivate and entertain while teaching impactful education, knows the magic he possesses. And, behind every great educator, there is a TEAM of great people… and Villa has some of the best.
“It’s such a thrill to be recognized for my efforts, if there’s one mark I would like to leave on the industry, it’s to be thought of as a hairdresser for hairdressers who strived to make other better hairdressers as a teacher,” explains Villa. “And, since I can’t be every where all the time, I have a solid talented group of individuals that help communicate the vision of the Sam Villa brand, and I am very grateful to them,” he adds.
Villa’s Director of Education, Andrew Carruthers, is an accomplished artist and educator with a devotion to teaching and passion for artistry that is similar in philosophy to Villa’s. His Artistic Director, Geneva Cowen, is a rare creative talent that fuels the imagery that represents the brand, she is also the creative genius behind the collections shot by the Sam Villa Creative Team. Villa also credits Redken as responsible for making him the educator he is today.
“In everything we do, we want salon owners and stylists to understand that it’s a different world out there now and it’s time for us to change the way we think, say and do. Clients in today’s world are looking for more value in a service, value is knowledge and that comes from good education,” says Villa.
How does Villa feel about the win? “Winning is an everyday thing, not a one time deal… if I can get two feet on the floor each morning, I’ve had a win. This win is especially sweet as it’s a People’s Choice Award, when people choose you it’s confirmation that what you are doing, saying and sharing is impactful. Just to be in the mix with industry icons such as Beth Minardi, John Simpson, Martino Cartier, Nick Stenson and Robert Cromeans, is a compliment and honor, but to win is such a thrill because the people choose it. And because of that, I will continue to stand before audiences motivated by the passion to teach. I’m not a genius, rock star or inventor, I’m a teacher. A platform artist who chooses to share what others have passed to me. Awards represent achievements, and to an extent show more about who you are as a person. When I look at this award, it represents desire, ambition, goals and accomplishments, and I thank the people,” explained Villa.
