The Make-up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards took place at the Paramount Theater (Los Angeles) where Wendi McLendon-Covery (The Goldbergs) served as hostess for the usual sit-down banquet.
At the awards show, winners beamed with excitement as their respected television series and movies were called. Televisions favorite such as “The Walking Dead” won the special make-up effects prize, while “Downtown Abbey” won the period and/or character categories. The biggest winner of the night however went to “American Horror Story: Freak Show” who snagged 3 awards for special makeup effects, period and/or character hair styling, and period and/or character makeup.
The Make-up Lifetime Achievement Award honoree was given to legendary make-up artist Rick Baker who gave an emotional speech. While the Hair Stylist Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Emmy® Award winning hairstylist Kathryn Blondell who congratulated the night’s nominees. Golden Globe® winner Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy) presented the Distinguished Artisan Award to his longtime friend and collaborator Guillermo Del Toro (Crimson Peak) – see photo above.
