From March 5th-29th, the Somerset House Art Gallery in London is staging an amazing exhibition of portraits featuring beards. An example of a trend inspiring art!
Whiskers are big, they’re the new cross-border trend. It’s such a clear and fascinating phenomenon that photographer Brock Elbank has decided to immortalize a series of hirsute characters in his portraits featuring thick, bushy beards.
The collection of photos is on show from March 5th to 29th at the Somerset House Art Gallery in London. These eighty original photos, which have never been exhibited before, explore the theme of grooming whilst celebrating an obsession with beards that is taking over the world.
The portrait subjects include the actor John Hurt, models Ricki Hall and Billy Huxley, and artist Gavin Turk, as well as other fascinating figures like tattoo artist Miles Better and the bearded lady Harnaam Kaur, who has lived with her whiskers since the age of 16 when she was struck by polycystic ovary syndrome.
The collection represents a short exploratory look at a topic which may seem superficial but gradually shifts the audience from viewing the purely aesthetic aspect to reflecting on a social phenomenon.
