Celebrity Colorist Rona O’Connor created the hair color looks for a few celebrities that attended the Emmys last night. Check out Rona’s break down of Debra Messing and Heidi Klum’s vibrant haircolor.
Creating a multi-reflective Red: Debra Messing
First, Rona used Goldwell Dualsenses Color Structure Equalizer Spray to allow better absorption of color. Rona used Goldwell’s TopChic permanent haircolor and created a level 7 copper for the base while adding three different shades of red throughout the hair at the same time:
- Level 9 Golden Apricot
- Level 8 Bright Copper
- Level 7 Natural Copper
Rona finished her color with a gloss to seal and tone, while reflecting multifaceted hues and shine. She used a custom mixture of Goldwell’s Colorance for this. For lasting color Rona finished with her favorite leave in Goldwell’s Color Lock Serum.
How-to for a beautiful red carpet blonde: Heidi Klum
Rona’s first consideration with blonde color was keeping the integrity of the hair and maintaining the best condition possible, as it is one of the most fragile and sometimes damaging inducing color techniques. Rona felt it is most important to have a color that grows out well and stays healthy in between visits.
How to achieve Heidi’s Red carpet blonde: She softened Heidi’s Base color by one shade with New Blonde by Goldwell. This allows a softer regrowth with less demarcation, and allows for less highlights, giving a blonde result with no damage.
Rona sprayed the dry hair before highlighting with Goldwell Dualsenses Color Structure Equalizer Spray. There is no such thing as too much conditioning for blondes. She highlighted with SilkLift by Goldwell adding three drops of SilkLift Intensive Conditioning Serum Concentrate which drives conditioner into the hair during the highlighting process – it’s amazing and prevents breakage on delicate hair.
To seal the hair, Rona used 10V Colorance by Goldwell, with clear in equal parts to seal, tone, and reflect dimensional hues and high shine color.
She used Goldwell Dualsenses Rich Repair Regeneration Serum (which she calls “The Booster Shot”) to protect, repair and condition hair. It fills the hair shaft with lipids, reinforcing the integrity of the hair.
Keeping the hair filled with the right products is key to high quality color results (especially blondes that heat style often)!
