How-To: The Two Brides of Southampton

“Times are changing. Our first gay wedding. 2 brides marrying each other in Southampton. #gaymarriages #southhamptonbrides #carolynssalon,” is what Carolyn Walter, owner of Carolyn’s Salon (Aquebogue, NY) posted about the above photo of a trial for a wedding!

The brunette was done by Carolyn Walter:

  1. • Shampoo and condition with KMS California Free Shape.
  2. • Blow dry with KMS California Free Shape Hot Flex Crème.
  3. • Spray with KMS California Free Shape 2+1 and curl with an iron.
  4. • Separated sides from the back from behind the ear forward and gather the remaining hair into a pony and secure with an elastic band.
  5. • Randomly twist and pin curls around the base of the ponytail.
  6. • French braid the sides and tuck into the curls.

The blonde was done by Kayla Giordano, stylist at Carolyn’s Salon:

  1. • Shampoo and condition with KMS California Curl Up and air-dry with KMS California Curl Up Control Crème.
  2. • Leave out the front and sides, tie up the back, pin up the hair around the hair tie, directing the hair to fall mostly to one side.
  3. • Pin the sides and front softly but securely away from the face – the key is to work with the curl and let the hair naturally fall with a little direction from bobby pins.

When creating the hair for two women at a wedding, should the looks relate/compliment each other or be totally separate and stand on their own?  “I think that is a personal preference, I feel it would work either way,” adds Walter.

“If you haven’t started pinning boards on Pinterest yet, starting with a bridal board is an easy place to start. You can have images of your work, as well as images by others that you feel confident creating,” adds Patrick McIvor, Artistic & TechniCulture Director for Goldwell and KMS California.
