Jon Paul Holt and Avant Garde Hair Studio have produced a fascinating interpretation of eight timeless cinema stars, featured as part of an interesting experiment in re-creation!
Their inspiration came from a passion for cinema and some of the classic big-screen stars who have remained evergreen throughout the years, legends in their own right. The Canadian creative team of Avant Garde Hair Studio attempted to revive the atmosphere of yesteryear, of those stars in that era.
And they did so by producing a bespoke collection, suitably named “Icons”. Rather than copying or comparing past and present, this collection highlights how these legends still wield a huge influence today –even after seventy years, in some case – on our fashion trends and ideas.
Avant Garde Hair Studio divided the icons into three groups. For each star from the past, they created a modern version with an updated look of the original pose and shot. For the “sexy” category, they re-discovered Brigitte Bardot, Betty Grable and Jane Russell. For “grace”, on the other hand, they revived the stars Audrey Hepburn and Rita Hayworth. Finally, the “cultural glamour” group was represented by Marilyn Monroe and Twiggy.
This was a real challenge undertaken by the Canadian hairstylists, not to copy styles but to reinterpret influential looks in an updated version.
